Vampire Academy - Richelle Mead So I finally decided to take this up. Figured it was about time to see if it's as good as people say.Let's get the bad things out of the way first:-Rose. I hated her guts. She's a childish, immature, condescending, stuck-up bitch. Couldn't stand her. Most of the time I was like...At one point, namely when she was an utter bitch to Christian after that banquet, I had to put down the book so I wouldn't throw it across the room. The fact that she considers herself oh so interesting that everything else is boring got on my last nerve. And the fact that she gives herself the fucking right to tell Lissa what to do. And spying on your best friend? What in the fuck Rose?! What I minded most was her attitude towards Christian. He's not popular, so fucking what! And using your friends and snapping at 'em all the time? Not cool in the least. -The whole Mean Girls thing going on. It was a bit overdone if you ask me.-Vampires. These have got to be the lamest vampires since that sparkling fairy. Vamps who get fucking sick and die of old age and eat normal food. What?!The only thing that made them different from regular humans is the fact that they have fangs and drink blood. I am pretty sure Ms. Mead made them vampires cause it was popular back in the day and her books would've been read based on the fact it's about vampires. -Predictability. I would've picked up on the hints of the big mystery even if I hadn't read Half-Blood first. That all being said, I still rather enjoyed this book. Even if I hated Rose and even Lissa was going on my nerves at times, I found myself being pulled into this world of theirs. And even if it isn't really even in the works yet, I do enjoy a good story about a revolution. Cause this system the Moroi have set up is really lame. Who in the fuck has powers but doesn't use 'em to defend oneself? No sense whatesoever.Another thing I liked is Dimitri. Dimitri and Rose as well. I am not usually into brooding guys and I hate Rose, but I was all happy and smiley when they had those few moments. I am shipping them a lot for now. Also Christian. I loved that guy. I was over the moon when he got together with Lissa. Another thing I loved is the friendship between Rose and Lissa. Sometimes I was annoyed with how over-protective Rose is and I wondered at times if it's even two-sided but in the end it was nice to see how they care for each other. Truly care.I liked the writing as well. And the plot is interesting enough for me to continue reading. On to the next book!
